What you get

Three things you walk away with.

The four structures, side by side

Chattel mortgage, hire purchase, finance lease and rental. Ownership, balance sheet treatment, residual exposure, end of term position, and what happens if you want out early.

Someone checks the asset is clear

Buying privately is where this matters most. Money paid for a machine that still has finance owing on it is a genuinely bad day, and checking that is part of the job.

You get a call before the term ends

Residuals and balloons arrive whether you were ready or not. A phone call three months out turns a problem into a plan.

Why Adrian

Five reasons this conversation is worth your time.

  • The dealer's finance desk works for the dealer. It is paid on the finance, not on whether the structure suits you in four years. Nobody there is going to ask how long you intend to keep the machine.
  • There is nothing to pay, at any stage. No engagement fee, not reduced and not rebated. The lender pays a commission on settlement, which is the same way a dealership is paid.
  • He was on the other side of the desk for 24 years. He knows how asset lenders assess age, type and serviceability, because he spent his career applying those policies.
  • Lenders who look at gear a bank will not. Older equipment, private sales and specialised machinery. A panel matters most when the asset is unusual.
  • Your terms get tracked. I keep a record of your residuals and come to you before a term ends, rather than after, so the next decision is planned instead of urgent.

The complimentary assessment

Exactly what gets done, before you pay anything.

  • We talk about the asset and what it is for. How it will be used, how long you expect to keep it, and how it fits with the rest of your equipment and your existing facilities.
  • The structures run through side by side. Chattel mortgage, hire purchase, finance lease, operating lease and rental, compared for your situation. Tax treatment is your accountant's call, and I will tell you exactly what to ask them.
  • It gets pre-assessed properly. Serviceability, existing commitments, the asset's age and type, and whether it should sit inside an existing facility or stand alone.
  • Your position tested against lender credit appetite. Across a panel that includes lenders who will look at older equipment, private sales and specialised machinery that a bank will not touch. You get an indicative outcome before anyone has touched your credit file.

It costs you nothing.

How it works

Three steps, and we do the running.

Pick a time

Choose a slot that suits you from Adrian’s calendar. It takes about two minutes, and you get a confirmation straight away.

We talk it through

Forty-five minutes by phone or video, or on site if you are near Sunraysia. The asset, how long you will keep it, and which structure suits that.

You decide what happens next

You finish with an indicative outcome and a clear picture of what proceeding would involve. Whether you take it further is entirely up to you.

About

Who you’re actually booking with.

Adrian Hardie

I spent 24 years inside the big four banks. I sat on the other side of the desk, applying the credit policies that decide whose loan gets written and whose does not.

I also farm. I own and work an avocado block in Sunraysia, so I have signed for my share of machinery and I have seen what happens when the residual arrives and nobody planned for it.

That combination is the whole point of Hardie Finance Group. I know how lenders think, and I know what it looks like from your side of it.

Common questions

Before you book.

What does this cost me?

Nothing. There is no engagement fee on asset finance, at any stage, for any client. I am paid a commission by the lender on settlement, not by you. That is the same way a dealer finance desk is paid, except a dealership can offer you one lender's product and I can put your deal in front of a panel.

The dealer has already offered me finance. Why look further?

Because the dealer finance desk is paid on the finance and will not ask how long you intend to keep the asset. The structure is what decides your position at the end of the term, and it is worth ten minutes to compare properly.

What is the difference between a chattel mortgage and a lease?

Ownership, balance sheet treatment, residual exposure and what happens at the end of the term. I will run you through all four side by side. The tax treatment of each is your accountant's call, and I will tell you exactly what to ask them.

Can you finance a private sale or older equipment?

Often yes. My panel includes lenders who will look at older gear, private sales and specialised machinery that a bank will not touch. Part of the job on a private sale is verifying the asset is clear of existing security before any money moves.

Will this affect my credit file?

No. Your position is assessed against lender policy first. A credit enquiry is only lodged when you decide to submit an actual application, and I ask you before that happens.

How quickly can it be done?

It depends on the lender, the asset and how complete the file is when it goes in. Complete applications get decided quickly, which is why the preparation step exists. I will not promise you a timeframe a lender controls.

What happens when the term ends?

I keep a record of your terms and residuals and come to you before the term ends, so the next decision is planned rather than urgent. That is included, and there is nothing to pay for it.

Do you work outside the Sunraysia region?

Yes. I am based in Mildura, Victoria and travel a wide radius around the Sunraysia region. Clients further afield are looked after by video, phone and email, with the same process throughout.
